laundry-blog-1It was about a week or so after I had decided to start blogging and was thinking about what focus to take, how often to blog and so forth, when I mentioned to my older daughter that I was starting a blog.  Her initial reaction was the same disdainful look that she gave my husband when he told her that he was setting up a website.  Any parent of a child over the age of ten knows the look: the contemptuous sneer of a person who knows absolutely everything, combined with an oh-my-god-you-are-so-embarrassing stare.  Her second reaction was the witty retort, “What are you going to blog about, doing the laundry”?  I told her that I had 41 years of life experience to blog about.  After all, I have held some interesting jobs, travelled a bit, met some compelling people, obtained a university degree and have two children.  To this she had another droll reply, “Experiencing what”?

With these thoughts churning in my head, I went about my routine (you got it, laundry).  Will people be interested in what I have to say?  Do people read blogs?  I do, but according to the all-knowing being that is my oldest child, most people don’t.  What would be my area of focus?  Then it struck me – human relationships.  This is a broad topic, and one that each and every one of us experience on a daily basis.  Some are healthy and rewarding, others drain us and make us wish for another day.  Who doesn’t want to share their happiness in good times and commiserate with others when things are rough?

“What makes her an authority on relationships?”, I hear many of you asking yourselves.  I’m not.  I’ve made a million mistakes in my interpersonal relationships and will make a million more.  What I can offer is my insight and opinions, my take on the world.  I also want to hear what you have to say.  Isn’t that what human relationships are all about?  I’m excited to start this new venture and chapter in my life.  I’m looking forward to meeting new people and developing whole new relationships as I share a piece of myself with the world.

I’d like to thank my husband, Kevin, at www.hardertofind.net for giving me a space on his site to post my blog and encouraging me to be who I need to be.  I also have to give a shout out and mad props to Lee at bloggersworkshop.com for his great blogs, tips and support.  You rock, Lee!  A special thank you goes to my oldest daughter for being the inspiration for this blog.  I hope this doesn’t embarrass you too much!

What are your thoughts?   Contact me at donig@mts.net.  I’d love to hear what you have to say!

 I’ll be back next week!

Orianne
